So I’ve grooved in the Moo.

Perhaps it was the cold weather, or the regional influence but I was more than impressed with the chilled out atmosphere of Canberra’s Groovin’ the Moo. I had predicted everyone would endure the cold and persist in wearing their denim cutoffs, yet the crowd was suitably rugged up. I remained freezing throughout the day despite the 5 layers I refused to shed. Probably the first festival I’ve been to where animal suits were more popular then slushies and coffee more often consumed than alcohol.

Upon arrival we decided to take adventage of the midday heat by having a drink on the hill overlooking the main stage. The Maccebees worked suitably well for this. They were enjoyable enough, but no one was really inspired to get up and jump around.

A highlight was actually Beni – I was taken by his androgynously memorising back up dancers. I am generally not one to appreciate a backup dancer ( think Kanye at BDO) although there was something about these two that suited Beni’s eightiesque beats, background colours and the Moolin Rouge tent more generally.

As an 80s kid the highlight was of course Public Enemy. Normally I stay further back when large crowds gather but the freezing temperature meant that I could not get close enough to front of stage. And of course there was a suitably meaningful tribute to MCA.

So what did you think of the day?

Australia’s newest ‘annual ritual’?

So Groovin the Moo is coming to town in one month and I want to know why it is so important. It’s sold out online so it must be a highly anticipated event for some of you out there. Is it the ‘annual ritual’ that Groovin the Moo is promoting?

Mess and Noise – Groove in the Moo

It would be fantastic if I could get in contact with people who are planning to attend so I can find out more. I am really interested in talking to people before and after the event to explore the ways the day affected them, how they anticipated the event and how it may have changed their understandings once they returned home. For anyone really interested it would be fantastic if I could get sound clips, photo or video footage of key events / highlights throughout the day – this could easily be done on iphones and smartphones.

I have tickets for Canberra on the 13th of May, hopefully I’ll see some of you there!

(Sorry for the extremely bad quality picture, at uni today and thus no camera)
